HUNGARY – Hungary Awarded for Helping Persecuted Christians of Middle East

Hungary has been acknowledged for playing a vital role in helping the persecuted Christians of the Middle East. In this regard, the Center for Security Policy- a Washington based think tank awarded the Hungarian nation’s efforts.

On September 13, an event was organized in Washington where Tristan Azbej, State Secretary at Hungary’s Prime Minister’s office received the award on behalf of his nation. Mr. Azbej termed political correctness responsible for belittling the plight of the persecuted Christians as he insisted that “Christianity is currently the most persecuted religion”.

While addressing the attendees Gregg Mitchell, co-leader of the International Religious Freedom Roundtable appreciated the government of Hungary for showing enthusiasm and keenness to help the persecuted Christians. He said that Hungary’s 2016 programme; which aimed to help the persecuted Christians hailing from Middle East was exemplary. He said that other countries must also follow this example.

In 2016, Hungary established a special government office in order to help the persecuted Christians. The new section of Hungary’s ministry for human resources sought to succor the down trodden and persecuted Christians from the Middle East.

Hungary’s Premier Mr. Viktor Orban on the eve of elections held in the current year stated that Hungarians have a goal in maintaining Christianity in their country. Viktor Orban has been Hungary’s Prime Minister since 2010, and has always affirmed his aspiration to protect Christians in the world. However his desire has not seen much success as Hungary and other countries of Central European are opposing the European Union regarding the quotas of migrants to be sent to the member countries of the EU.
