On February 23rd, 2019, Nigeria’s incumbent president, Muhammadu Buhari, was re-elected for office. President Buhari was born to a chief in the Fulani tribe, joined the Nigerian military, and eventually rose to the position of Major General. These events would eventually lead to him rising in government until his election as president in 2015.
Since President Buhari was elected, the actions of Fulani herdsmen as Jihadist militants have gone largely unchecked. The Fulani freely roam and kill Christians in the northern and middle belt regions of Nigeria.
